After members of parliament take their oath of office this morning, parliament begins its first sitting of 16 days. For the second time in its history, Barisan Nasional will be without a two-thirds majority.The first sitting of the first session is much anticipated because of many firsts and also rumours that the ruling coalition's MPs are waiting for "a signal" to cross the floor to Pakatan Rakyat.

Khir: Balkis didn’t need approval

SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo has challenged the state government to take legal action over the dissolution of Balkis (Wives of Selangor Assemblymen and MPs Welfare and Charity Organisation) and the transfer of RM9.9 million funds. In response to criticisms of the transfer the former menteri besar said: "Please don't talk rubbish and refer to our lawyer."

Government to look at petrol subsidy after decision on diesel

JOHOR BARU: Restructuring the petrol subsidy will be next on the agenda after the Government decides on the new diesel prices in six weeks. Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Samad said that all parties had been asked to submit proposals on how to manage and control the fuel subsidy scheme.
